Marc has a significant municipal law practice advising municipal units on matters as diverse as governance, councillor conduct, by-laws, land use planning, real estate, tax sales, expropriation, risk avoidance, facility and asset management and procurement.

 

Drawing on his background as a Professional Engineer and former environmental consultant, Marc defends engineers, architects and other professionals against liability claims and represents clients in all things environmental including complex contaminated sites litigation and clients charged with regulatory offences.

 

Marc acts for major financial institutions, receivers and other stakeholders in insolvency and restructuring matters throughout Atlantic Canada.

 

Marc is recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada for his practice in Insolvency and Financial Restructuring Law (since 2019) and Municipal Law (since 2020).

 

Marc is a co-author of the leading text on climate change law in Canada, The Law of Climate Change in Canada (Canada Law Book, 2010).  He also a former author of the “Law East” column for the Environment Policy & Law newsletter.

 

Marc is a past chair of both the Municipal Law and Environmental, Energy & Resource Law Sections of the Nova Scotia Branch of the CBA.  He is also a past chair of The Clean Nova Scotia Foundation and was a director of the Environmental Services Association of Nova Scotia.  For many years Marc taught business and environmental law courses at the Schulich School of Law.  He also served as a member of the Nova Scotia Assessment Appeals Tribunal.
